LET OUT YOUR CREATIVITY: DESIGN THINKING PROGRAMME
Let Out Your Creativity is an educational programme designed to empower participants, particularly students in schools, to unleash their creative potential and cultivate creative confidence to solve real-world problems through the EDIT Design Thinking® Methodology and immersive learning journeys. By stepping ‘out’ of their comfort zones, participants embark on a transformative exploration of the world, fostering empathy and embracing design thinking principles. These enriching experiences allow participants to understand diverse perspectives, ignite their curiosity, and develop the skills needed to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
Creativeans is the approved Learning by Design industry partner by DesignSingapore Council.

THE CREATIVE CHALLENGE
- Students do not understand what design thinking is about.
- Students are not creative in the exploration of ideas.
- To equip students with design thinking skills and tools to confidently discuss possible new ways to solve difficult challenges that have no single, right, or known answer.

THE OUTCOMES
- The programme has increased students’ knowledge of design thinking, from 13.5% to 69.5%, an increment of 56%.
- Students are no longer afraid to try out new ideas or solutions to solve problems.
- Students now find it easier to work with others in a team to solve problems.
LEARNING JOURNEYS
The programme immersed students in two types of learning journeys – Design Studio Visit and Thematic Learning Journeys. This approach delivered a pragmatic and human-centred perspective that extended beyond theory and classroom learning, allowing students to observe and understand the application of design thinking principles firsthand.
Throughout the programme, the student batches delved into the themes of Sustainability, Culture, and Community, respectively.
ACTION LEARNING
Let Out Your Creativity with Sembawang Secondary School successfully impacted 63 students across 3 batches.
The programme was conducted in diverse groups, comprising participants from various classes, ages, and ethnicities. This collaborative environment, often absent from contemporary school settings, effectively enabled participants to overcome their differences and work together cohesively – further nurturing their learning experience with unity and teamwork.
The structured action learning methodology employed in each class session, coupled with close facilitation and guidance provided by our instructors, played a pivotal role in steering the students’ learning trajectory. Moreover, providing tools and templates (e.g., empathy map, how might we, idea dice, random images/words, etc.) have allowed students to utilise design thinking concepts adeptly.
